About The Role

Ajaia is seeking a Digital Product Designer to lead discovery and design efforts for both client engagements and Ajaia’s proprietary product suite. This role requires direct interaction with end-users to observe their workflows and translate those insights into user journeys, wireframes, and prototypes that engineers can build from confidently. The designer will be responsible for validating designs with real users before any production code is written and setting the design standards for all products shipped by Ajaia.

This position is fully remote and involves conducting discovery, user testing, and collaboration with clients and engineers through online platforms. The role demands a hands-on approach, where the designer personally executes research and design activities without delegating these tasks.

Compensation ranges from $10,000 to $14,000 base salary, commensurate with experience, plus a performance bonus of up to 100% of the base salary.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to independently conduct discovery activities including interviews, usability testing, and behavioral data analysis.

• Strong skills in synthesizing research findings into actionable insights and rapid prototyping.

• Experience designing workflows that integrate human checkpoints as part of the user journey rather than as afterthoughts.

• Capability to advocate design decisions based on evidence, even when these challenge stakeholder expectations.

• Fluency in AI tools for research, synthesis, and prototyping, with the ability to discern quality output from poor results.

• Comfortable collaborating directly with engineers throughout the build process to ensure design fidelity.

• Ability to work fully remotely, conducting interviews and user testing via video conferencing.

• Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required; hiring decisions are based on demonstrated work quality.

Nice To Have

• A public portfolio or case studies available for review prior to interviews.

• Experience designing AI-native workflows, including appropriate placement of human checkpoints.

• Background in consulting, agency, or professional services managing multiple concurrent clients.

• Familiarity with lightweight front-end development or implementation.

Responsibilities

• Conduct discovery sessions with clients by interviewing users and observing their workflows via screen sharing.

• Apply the same rigorous discovery process to users of Ajaia’s own product suite.

• Synthesize findings into clear user needs, distinguishing them from expressed requests and supporting conclusions with evidence.

• Create user journeys, wireframes, and interactive prototypes that are precise and build-ready for engineering teams.

• Design human approval checkpoints into workflows as integral features rather than add-ons.

• Test designs with real users before any production code is developed to validate usability and effectiveness.

• Challenge and negotiate stakeholder feature requests when research indicates alternate solutions, providing actionable explanations.

• Maintain and own the design standards across all Ajaia product engagements to ensure consistency and efficiency.

• Utilize AI-enabled design and prototyping tools as standard practice, knowing when to rely on AI and when manual refinement is necessary.

• Deliver design assets in a state that allows engineers to begin development immediately and remain engaged during implementation to ensure alignment with design intent.
