About The Role

As a PHP / WordPress Developer, you will join a small, collaborative development team working on varied client projects. The team currently includes the two owner-developers, three permanent employees, and a flexible network of freelance specialists. You will contribute to customer solutions through two-week Scrum sprints, participating in planning and other Scrum sessions to help shape work and deliver project outcomes.

Because the team is small, you will have meaningful responsibility and the opportunity to influence how projects are approached. You will be trusted to work independently, consider technical options, and contribute ideas for smart, maintainable solutions. At the same time, Starapple believes strong results come from sharing knowledge and working together. This role suits someone who enjoys taking ownership while remaining an active, supportive member of a development team.

Starapple prioritizes results over fixed working hours. You can organize your workday around your responsibilities and collaborate with colleagues remotely. The position is available for a working week of three to five days.

Qualifications

You have at least five years of relevant professional experience in PHP development and practical experience building with WordPress. You are comfortable creating custom plugins and developing solutions that meet specific client and platform requirements. You understand the importance of testing, including unit testing, and can apply design patterns and established coding standards to produce dependable, maintainable software.

You are able to take responsibility for your work, make considered technical decisions, and progress tasks independently. You also value collaboration, clear communication, and contributing to a shared team outcome. Knowledge of Symfony is an advantage, though it is not essential. Above all, you bring a genuine interest in technology and a thoughtful approach to solving development challenges.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain custom PHP and WordPress solutions for high-traffic websites. Build custom WordPress plugins and integrations that address client needs, while considering performance, scalability, and long-term maintainability. Write and maintain unit tests, follow coding standards, and use appropriate design patterns. Participate in two-week Scrum sprints, daily stand-ups, and other relevant team discussions. Take ownership of assigned work, contribute technical ideas, and collaborate with colleagues to deliver reliable products for clients across the media industry.

Benefits

Starapple offers a salary based on your experience and skills, with an indicated range of up to €5,500. You can work three to five days per week, remotely, and choose your working hours. Benefits include 25 vacation days, an additional day off on your birthday, and a pension plan through Brand Newday. You will receive a €2-per-day home-working allowance and a budget to set up your home office. The company also provides a laptop of your choice, commonly a MacBook Pro.
