About The Company

Maine College of Art & Design (MECA&D) is a creative college community dedicated to art, design, learning, and the exchange of ideas. Its students, faculty, alumni, and community partners contribute to a vibrant environment shaped by creative practice and collaboration. The Marketing & Communications department shares the College’s work and priorities with current and prospective students, families, and broader audiences through engaging, accessible communications.

About The Role

MECA&D is seeking a Digital & Social Content Specialist to bring the College’s people, creative work, and community to life across digital platforms. Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications, this full-time, exempt position leads day-to-day editorial planning, content creation, and publishing for institutional social media, with a focus on Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook, and TikTok. The Specialist produces photography, video, and written stories that build brand awareness, encourage engagement, and support marketing and enrollment goals.

The role works closely with Marketing & Communications, Admissions, academic programs, and administrative departments to identify stories and translate institutional priorities into authentic, platform-specific content. The Specialist will also help establish and supervise an in-house student Content Creator Studio, mentoring students and supporting their development of practical, career-ready communication skills. This position is full time, year-round, and based in campus and office settings, with occasional work at community locations.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience is required. Three or more years of related professional experience in digital content creation, social media, communications, or marketing is preferred.

Qualified candidates will bring experience planning, producing, editing, and publishing original photography, video, and written content; managing organizational social accounts and editorial calendars; and using performance data to inform content decisions. Strong writing, interviewing, editing, and visual storytelling skills are essential, along with the ability to adapt content for different audiences and platforms while maintaining a consistent institutional voice. Candidates should be comfortable using digital cameras, smartphones, microphones, photo and video editing software, and relevant content-production tools.

Additional qualifications include knowledge of social publishing, audience engagement, analytics, and content testing; an understanding of accessibility practices such as captions and alternative text; and sound judgment when handling permissions, sensitive information, and online interactions. Strong organization, project management, collaboration, and time management skills are important. Experience mentoring, supervising, or providing editorial feedback to students or other contributors is preferred.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain an editorial calendar aligned with institutional priorities, recruitment objectives, academic programs, College initiatives, and campus life. Work with departments and campus partners to identify timely, relevant stories, and turn longer-form material into content suited to each platform. Manage institutional social media accounts, publish content, respond to comments and messages, and coordinate with sub-account owners to support a cohesive brand presence.

Interview, write, and produce news items, profiles, and other digital editorial content. Serve as the primary photographer and videographer for day-to-day institutional storytelling, documenting students, faculty, alumni, studios, exhibitions, events, partnerships, and creative processes. Create short-form video and photography, maintain an organized digital asset repository and permission records, and coordinate external production resources for larger projects when needed.

Monitor channel performance, prepare regular reports, and recommend content improvements and platform-specific tests. Follow emerging technologies and social media trends, proposing experiments that strengthen digital storytelling. Help establish the student Content Creator Studio; assign stories, train and mentor student creators, set workflows and production standards, and review student work for accuracy and alignment with institutional expectations. Support students in building portfolios and transferable professional skills.

Benefits

The compensation range is $53,000–$56,000, based on experience. The position includes a comprehensive benefits package with health, dental, and retirement benefits, along with a generous paid time off allotment.

Equal Opportunity

Maine College of Art & Design is committed to providing equal employment opportunities. Applicants will be considered without regard to protected characteristics under applicable law. The essential functions of this role must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation. Candidates may submit a cover letter, résumé or curriculum vitae, and contact information for three to five references, including one prior supervisor.
