Elvserver, Inc. is a bare metal cloud provider focused on building efficient, reliable infrastructure for customers around the world. Guided by curiosity and a practical approach to engineering, our teams create systems that move data faster and with less friction. We support customers in more than 140 countries and continue to grow our services and capabilities. At Elvserver, we believe great results come from matching talented people with meaningful challenges. We value thoughtful engineering, collaboration, and the opportunity for every team member to contribute to the direction of our products.
About The Role
We are seeking a Back-end Engineer to help design, develop, and maintain the services behind our cloud infrastructure. This role is suited to an engineer with hands-on PHP and MySQL experience, a strong understanding of back-end architecture, and a methodical approach to solving technical problems. You will contribute to automation services, support systems already in production, and help evolve our infrastructure products as customer needs change.
At Elvserver, this is more than a ticket-focused development position. You will have meaningful ownership of decisions and the opportunity to share ideas that influence technical direction. You will work closely with experienced engineers in an open, collaborative environment, balancing reliability and maintainability with creative thinking. The position offers the flexibility to work fully remotely or from our USA office.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should have at least two years of practical experience developing with PHP and MySQL, along with sound back-end development and architecture skills. You should be comfortable working with Linux systems and have a solid working knowledge of networking. We also value clear, considered problem solving and the ability to communicate technical ideas in English. Intermediate English reading and writing skills are required.
Experience with PostgreSQL, Python, Go, Docker, or Symfony would be an advantage. We are also interested in candidates who have owned complex products or services from planning through delivery and ongoing support, have advanced English reading and writing skills, or have experience designing and consuming RESTful services. These additional skills are helpful but are not required.
Responsibilities
Architect, build, and maintain automation services that support Elvserver’s cloud infrastructure. Develop back-end functionality using PHP and MySQL, applying sound engineering practices to produce dependable, maintainable systems. Refine and evolve services that are already in production, investigate issues, and contribute to their ongoing support and reliability. Work with teammates to evaluate requirements, discuss design options, and make informed technical decisions. Take ownership of assigned work from initial problem solving through implementation and improvement, while considering how changes affect customers and the wider infrastructure. Share ideas, provide practical input into technical direction, and help identify opportunities to make our services more efficient and reliable.
Benefits
Elvserver offers a competitive hourly rate of $40–$55 USD, with the starting rate from $40 USD per hour, and additional bonuses may be available. Eligible team members can earn meaningful quarterly bonuses tied to revenue goals. Benefits include the choice of fully remote work or working from our USA office, up to 10 additional vacation days each year, and a collaborative culture where your contributions and perspective matter. You will work alongside supportive, experienced engineers and have opportunities to grow your skills. Sponsored trips to open-source events such as DockerCon, KubeCon, and FOSDEM provide opportunities to learn and connect with the wider technology community. Team breakfasts, outings, and celebrations offer additional ways to connect with colleagues.
Equal Opportunity
Elvserver, Inc. is committed to creating a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative workplace. We welcome applicants with a range of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, and make employment decisions based on role-related qualifications, skills, and business needs. We encourage all qualified candidates to apply.
