About YpUD6FD
YpUD6FD is building a next-generation American autonomous systems platform designed to move, protect, and sustain critical assets in high-consequence environments. The company combines advanced autonomy, manufacturing capability, operational expertise, and strategic acquisitions to support defense, national security, critical infrastructure, and commercial operations globally.
Mission
Our mission is to deliver resilient autonomous technologies that strengthen national security, improve operational safety, and expand the capabilities of organizations operating in complex environments.
Why Join YpUD6FD
YpUD6FD aircraft carry electro-optical and infrared cameras that operators use to find, identify, and follow objects of interest. The processing that turns those images into detections and tracks runs on the aircraft, within tight limits on compute, power, and latency.
This role develops and deploys the vision algorithms that run onboard, and verifies them against real flight imagery across lighting, weather, and sensor conditions.
Position Overview
YpUD6FD is seeking a Computer Vision Engineer to develop onboard detection, tracking, and image processing for EO/IR sensors on autonomous aircraft.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop object detection, multi-object tracking, and target re-acquisition for EO and IR imagery
• Implement image stabilization, registration, and geolocation of detections
• Optimize vision pipelines for embedded GPUs and accelerators
• Integrate vision outputs with autonomy, payload control, and ground station displays
• Evaluate algorithm performance on recorded flight data and define acceptance metrics
• Support flight test and data collection
Qualifications
• Must be located in the United States, within commuting distance of Rock Hill, SC
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
• Professional experience developing computer vision software in C++ and Python
• Experience with OpenCV and a deep learning framework such as PyTorch
• Experience with object detection and tracking algorithms
• Working knowledge of camera models, calibration, and multi-view geometry
• Experience deploying vision software on embedded or real-time systems
• U.S. Person status required (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)); this role involves access to ITAR- and EAR-controlled technical data
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with NVIDIA Jetson, TensorRT, or CUDA
• Experience with infrared imagery
• Experience with aerial or overhead imagery
• Graduate degree in computer vision, robotics, or a related field
• Active or prior U.S. security clearance
What We Look For
Candidates should have deployed a vision algorithm on hardware that operated outside a lab and be able to describe how its performance was measured.
