About the Role

Mitratech is seeking a Principal AI Engineer to provide technical leadership to a globally distributed engineering team. In this role, you will guide the architecture, design, and development of scalable software solutions that integrate AI capabilities into existing platforms.

You will lead AI strategy, oversee system architecture, and help developers break down complex product requirements into clear, manageable engineering tasks. The position also involves building AI agents and integrations, improving AI-assisted development practices, reviewing code, and mentoring engineers. This is a fully remote, full-time opportunity for candidates based anywhere in the United States.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Architecture

• Provide technical leadership throughout the design, development, and deployment of AI-integrated software solutions.

• Design scalable and modular systems that address complex business requirements.

• Communicate architectural decisions across services and technical domains.

• Ensure development follows modern architectural principles, including domain-driven design and microservices.

Agentic AI & Prompt Engineering

• Lead the integration of Agentic AI capabilities into existing platforms.

• Architect and build Model Context Protocols (MCPs), APIs, and AI agents.

• Develop and refine prompt strategies that guide AI agents in generating code, documentation, and tests.

• Use large language model tools to automate repetitive tasks and improve development efficiency.

System Design & Task Decomposition

• Translate high-level product goals into actionable engineering tasks suitable for both human and AI execution.

• Conduct detailed code reviews of human-generated and AI-generated code.

• Ensure code quality, performance, security, and correctness across the codebase.

Mentorship & Team Development

• Mentor globally distributed developers and provide technical guidance.

• Encourage the adoption of AI development tools and modern software design practices.

• Promote clean coding standards and a collaborative learning culture.

DevOps & CI/CD

• Collaborate on improving build and deployment pipelines.

• Integrate AI-enhanced code review and testing processes to streamline software delivery.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on technical leadership, design, and architecture.

• 2+ years of experience working with AI/ML models in a production environment.

• Strong background in backend or full-stack technologies, particularly Python.

• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Devin AI, GitHub Copilot, or GPT APIs.

• Strong system design and task decomposition skills, particularly for RAG and Agentic AI systems.

• Proven experience leading distributed engineering teams.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Exposure to AI agent frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGPT, or AgentCore.

• Experience with domain-driven design (DDD), MCPs, or microservices architecture.

• Experience with vector or graph databases, embeddings, or other LLM infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications

• A portfolio or examples of previous work demonstrating an interest in AI-driven software development.

• Previous experience in a fast-paced SaaS or startup environment.

• Knowledge of the HR, Legal, or Risk industries.

Compensation & Benefits

• Anticipated annual salary: $180,000–$200,000 USD.
