About the Company

Our localization arm specializes in subtitling, closed captioning, and entertainment translation services and is currently seeking experienced Basque to English freelance translators.

About the Role

General Requirements

• Speaker of the source language to a native level (IRL Level 4) with excellent listening skills & ability to use context clues to provide an accurate transcription.

• Speaker of the target language to a native level (IRL Level 5).

• Excellent knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation and ongoing engagement with the living language.

• Cultural sensitivity and extensive understanding of terminological/cultural nuances.

• Full professional proficiency (IRL Level 3 or 4) of English for communication purposes.

• Knowledge of cinema and the film industry.

• Is a plus: Degree and/or professional training in subtitling and media.

• Is a plus: Degree and/or professional training in languages, cultures, and translation.

Role-Specific Requirements

• Three to five years or more of translation experience.

• Excellent stylistic/writing skills in the target language, especially in the field of dialogue writing

• Three to five years or more of Subtitling experience.

• Proven record of working in a professional capacity in subtitling in the home entertainment, broadcast, theatrical space for a minimum of three years.

• Professional knowledge of subtitling conventions, e.g. condensing, rephrasing, ability to work within reading speed limits, readability, formatting and character limits.

• Ability to adhere to Netflix Timed Text Style Guides and meticulous attention to detail.

• Must understand subtitle timing best practices and be capable and competent in creating and amending timing of subtitles.

• Knowledge of subtitling and translation tools: e.g. EZTitles, Spot, WinCaps, SST G1, Netflix Originator.

• Is a plus: transcreation experience. Subtitling is an art, the subtitler’s role is to uphold and recreate the artistic intent of the content.

• Is a plus: Review, editing, and proofreading experience.

• Is a plus: QA tools knowledge.

• Is a plus: QA and QE methodologies knowledge Additional Task/Component Experience.
