Position Summary
The Content and Communications Manager owns the quality, consistency, and impact of everything Re8ygX and 8k4F publishes. The role writes and edits content across channels, leads the firm's thought leadership program and flagship content (including the Year in Review), and serves as the final quality read before anything goes out.
Working as the department's central content hub, the Content and Communications Manager sets editorial standards while partnering with the business development leads for each practice area. The goal is to turn attorney expertise into clear, polished content that builds the firm's reputation and supports specific client and business development goals. This is an opportunity to build the firm's content and thought leadership program within a newly restructured Marketing and Business Development department. We are looking for an entrepreneurial, innovative professional who brings fresh ideas, is energized by building new programs, and will help us rethink how the firm shares its expertise. This position can be based in our New Haven, Hartford, Stamford or New York office.
Key Responsibilities
Writing and Editing
• Write and edit website content, including practice and industry pages, attorney bios, news items, and announcements.
• Draft and edit client alerts, newsletters, articles, and thought leadership with attorneys, keeping their substance intact while sharpening clarity and readability.
• Write and edit content for pitches, proposals, and event materials in support of the BD team.
• Oversee award and directory submissions prepared with an outside vendor, editing content for quality and consistency.
• Serve as lead writer and editor for attorney visibility on LinkedIn and other social channels, building a recurring program for key partners that coordinates with the outside PR firm's media plans.
Thought Leadership and Flagship Content
• Lead the firm's Year in Review from planning through publication: gather highlights, matters, and results from each practice group, write and edit the content, and work with Design and the BD team on layout, production, and distribution.
• Plan and run the firm's thought leadership program, including flagship reports, market surveys, and recurring series built around practice and industry priorities.
• Work with attorneys to turn deal and case trends and legal developments into practical insights for clients.
• Develop video, webinar, and podcast content with attorneys, from concept and scripting through promotion.
Final Quality Read
• Serve as the final reviewer of all external marketing content before publication or distribution.
• Check accuracy, grammar, tone, consistency, and adherence to the firm's style guide and brand standards.
• Review designed materials, such as reports, brochures, and event pieces, for accuracy, quality, and brand consistency before release.
• Flag content that may raise attorney advertising, ethics, or confidentiality concerns for review.
Standards and Process
• Act as the central content hub for the department: set editorial standards and a single intake process, while supporting the BD leads for each practice area with fast turnaround.
• Create and maintain the firm's editorial style guide and content templates.
• Manage the content calendar and production workflow, tracking drafts, attorney review, and approvals.
• Coordinate with the outside PR firm on press releases and media content to keep messaging consistent.
• Work with Marketing Operations and Marketing Technology to publish content on the website, email platform, and social channels.
Strategy and Measurement
• Align content with the priorities of the BD leads, client teams, and active pursuits, so content supports specific clients and prospects.
• Identify content opportunities tied to practice group priorities and client industries.
• Turn major pieces into derivative content, such as alerts, social posts, video clips, and pitch materials, to extend their reach.
• Optimize content for search and AI-driven discovery (SEO and generative engine optimization) so the firm's expertise is easy to find.
• Track engagement and impact, maintain a simple dashboard of content performance and usage, and recommend improvements based on results.
• Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Degree or equivalent work experience.
• 7+ years of professional writing, editing, and thought leadership experience, preferably in a law firm, Big Four firm, or other professional services firm. Experience in journalism, legal publishing, or corporate communications also considered.
• Experience managing a flagship publication, such as an annual report, research report, or magazine, from planning through production.
• An entrepreneurial mindset, with a track record of launching new initiatives, programs, or approaches that delivered measurable results.
• A portfolio of published work showing range across web, long-form, and short-form content.
• Experience working with senior professionals as subject matter experts and managing their review cycles.
• Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a sharp eye for detail and a consistent voice.
• Ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, engaging language for business audiences.
• Ability to turn research and data into compelling, insight-driven stories.
• Confidence to give constructive editorial feedback to partners and senior attorneys.
• Strong organization and ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Sound judgment and discretion with confidential client and firm information.
• Collaborative, service-oriented approach and comfort working across marketing, BD, and practice teams.
• Familiarity with website content management systems, email marketing platforms, CRM and digital asset management systems, and AI-assisted content tools.
• Demonstrated experience using AI tools as a research assistant, editor, and thought partner to improve the speed and quality of content, while applying sound judgment, human review, and the firm's confidentiality and data security policies.
• Experience with video, webinar, or podcast production is a plus.
