Production Artist / Pre-Press Designer – KX5g87SNa sPPWt5Dvv San Antonio
About The Role
This is a production-focused design role, not a creative agency job. Most of our work is already defined. The customer knows what they want, or the layout is set, and it needs to be built accurately and quickly so it prints and fabricates right the first time. If you get satisfaction from clean files, tight turnaround, and seeing your work installed on buildings, vehicles, and storefronts, this is your job.
What You’ll Do
• Turn customer files, sketches, and approved layouts into accurate, print-ready production files for large-format printing, vinyl cutting, routing, and fabrication.
• Fix problem art: rebuild or vectorize low-res logos, correct fonts, set up cut paths, contour cuts, bleeds, panels, and tiling.
• Manage color (CMYK and Pantone matching) and make sure files are compatible with the substrate and the output method.
• Build proofs that customers can understand and approve quickly. Make revisions efficiently.
• Work through a high-volume queue, prioritizing by due date, and coordinate with production so jobs move without bottlenecks.
• Use AI tools (e.g., Photoshop Generative Fill, Illustrator vectorization, upscaling) to cut cleanup and prep time.
• Do light original layout when needed. This is roughly 20% of the role, not the core of it.
Must-Haves
• Expert Illustrator skills: vector cleanup, paths, layers, and artboards. Strong in Photoshop.
• An eye for detail. You catch the wrong dimension, the missing bleed, and the misspelling before it hits the printer.
• Speed with accuracy. You’re comfortable handling many jobs a day and hitting deadlines.
• Practical use of AI tools for image repair, vectorization, and production efficiency.
• The ability to work independently and manage your own queue.
• The ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods during production.
Bonus
• Sign, print shop, or large-format experience.
• RIP software experience (Onyx, FlexiSign, etc.).
• Vinyl application or fabrication experience.
This role is probably not a fit if you’re mainly looking to create original concepts and explore multiple design directions. We value design skill, but here it serves accuracy and speed.
Compensation: $41,500.00 - $50,000.00 per year
