We ship fast, often several releases a week, and we build with AI-assisted development as a core practice. We are hiring a Senior Application Developer to raise the bar on how we build: establish and lead a formal software development lifecycle (SDLC), raise code quality, own application security inside our apps, mentor a growing team of developers, and deliver new apps end to end with the business.
What you'll do
• Build and ship business apps end to end. Partner with our product managers and their business users in sales, operations, logistics, purchasing and finance to turn product requirements and roadmaps into Python/Dash and web applications, from data model to deployed container.
• Establish and run our SDLC. Define and roll out a practical software development lifecycle for the team: intake and requirements with product managers, design review, coding standards, code review, testing and QA, versioned releases, dev-to-production promotion, change management, rollback, documentation and post-release support. Coach the team in using it and improve it over time.
• Own security inside the apps. Lead authentication and authorization across apps, including the central Pero Central portal and the signed tokens it passes to other apps; remove hard-coded credentials; apply secure coding practices.
• Write and tune the data layer. Design T-SQL views, stored procedures and indexes on Azure SQL; make slow screens fast through query tuning, caching and smarter data loading.
• Keep the UI standard. Maintain our shared Dash app template and UI standard (grids, filters, export, theming) so every app looks and behaves the same.
• Modernize legacy tools. Convert stand-alone HTML/React and Node apps into maintainable Dash apps on the shared template with full feature parity.
• Lead and mentor. Review pull requests, pair with junior developers and analysts, write onboarding guides, and set coding standards for a team that is growing.
• Use AI well. Build with AI coding assistants every day, and build AI features (Claude API, retrieval-augmented search, MCP integrations) where they help the business.
You will partner with our Azure Infrastructure & Security Specialist, who owns cloud networking, database platforms and infrastructure security.
Applications Python, Plotly Dash, Flask, Dash AG Grid, Plotly charts; some Node.js/Express and React
Data Azure SQL (T-SQL views, stored procedures), pandas, pyodbc, Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory feeds from ERP/WMS and EDI
Hosting Docker, Azure Container Apps, Azure Container Registry, gunicorn
Source and release GitHub, branch-based reviews, versioned image tags
Identity Microsoft Entra ID, a central portal that issues signed tokens to apps
AI Claude Code and other AI coding assistants, Claude API, RAG, MCP servers
What you bring
• 7+ years in a custom software development environment, such as an in-house development team or a software consultancy, writing bespoke applications from the ground up rather than configuring packaged software; including 3+ years as a senior or lead developer.
• Strong Python, including web apps with Dash, Flask or a similar framework, and pandas for data work.
• Strong SQL: complex T-SQL queries, views, stored procedures, indexing and performance tuning.
• A track record of taking custom applications from requirements through design, build, testing, release and ongoing support, and of building data-heavy internal tools: dashboards, grids, filters, forms and workflow approvals.
• Application security in practice: authentication and authorization, token-based identity (JWT, OAuth/OIDC), secrets handling, OWASP Top 10.
• Demonstrated experience establishing and running an SDLC (Agile/Scrum or similar) across requirements, design, development, testing, release, change management and support, with examples you can show, such as process documents, release checklists, test plans or workflow templates. Git branching, code review, versioned releases and rollback in daily practice.
• Docker and deploying containerized apps to a cloud platform, preferably Azure.
• Daily, productive use of AI coding assistants, with the judgment to review and test what they produce.
• Experience working closely with product managers: refining requirements and user stories, estimating, planning releases against a roadmap, and demoing work for feedback. Clear communication with non-technical users; able to turn a conversation into a working screen.
• Experience mentoring developers and setting team standards.
Nice to have
• Azure Container Apps, Azure SQL and Microsoft Entra ID.
• JavaScript, React or Node.js, and converting legacy apps to a modern framework.
• Building LLM features: Claude or OpenAI APIs, retrieval-augmented generation, MCP.
• Azure Data Factory, EDI or ERP/WMS integration.
• Automated testing and CI/CD with GitHub Actions; Jira or Azure DevOps for backlog, sprint and release tracking.
• Experience in distribution, logistics or manufacturing.
