About the role
The Senior Analytics Engineer is a core member of 81qd’s technical BI team, which builds, maintains, and improves the analytics products our pharmaceutical clients rely on. You’ll work directly with the BI manager to design data models, automate pipelines, build AI-assisted tools, and take internally built products from working prototype to secure, production-ready systems.
We’re looking for someone who adds engineering depth to the team, including skills we don’t have yet. You’ll have real influence over how our products are built and where they go next.
About the team
BI sits within 81qd’s Strategy & Insights team and works across pharmaceutical clients on speaker bureau analytics, KOL and HCP mapping, patient intelligence, and AI-powered analytics tools. The team is organized around two tracks: a technical team that builds and runs our products, and client-facing colleagues who manage client relationships and bring client and market needs back to the builders. This role is on the technical side, so your time goes to building rather than client management.
What you’ll do
• Design, build, and maintain the data models and pipelines in Snowflake and SQL Server that power our client products
• Bring in and integrate outside data, such as Open Payments, claims and prescription vendor feeds, and client CRM extracts, through file transfers and APIs
• Build and maintain dashboards in Tableau, with a focus on performance, reusable data sources, and consistent standards
• Write Python to automate data preparation, validation, refreshes, and deliverable production
• Build AI-assisted tools and features, such as LLM-powered workflows, agents, and automated QC, and test whether they’re accurate enough to trust
• Take internally built tools from prototype to production: version control, testing, deployment, authentication, and monitoring
• Help set engineering practices for the team, including code review, documentation, data quality checks, and a release process
• Keep our products running: troubleshoot failed refreshes and outages, fix root causes, and put monitoring in place so problems surface before clients notice
• Propose and prototype improvements to existing products and ideas for new ones
• Turn requirements from client-facing colleagues into technical designs, and explain trade-offs in plain terms
• Share knowledge and help raise the technical bar across the team
What you bring
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, statistics, or a related field, or equivalent experience
• 4+ years in analytics engineering, data engineering, BI development, or a similar role
• Experience working with pharma, life sciences, or healthcare data, such as HCP, medical claims, prescription, or Open Payments data
• Advanced SQL, including data modeling, performance tuning, and complex transformations
• Strong Python for data work and automation (pandas, scripting, working with APIs)
• Hands-on experience with a cloud data warehouse, Snowflake preferred
• Production experience with Tableau
• Git and core software engineering practices: testing, code review, and CI/CD
• Experience deploying and hosting web apps or internal tools (cloud platforms, containers, SSO and authentication, HTTPS)
• Experience building with AI or LLM tools, such as model APIs, prompt design, agents, or evaluation
• Ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical colleagues
• An ownership mindset: you notice what’s fragile and fix it before it breaks
Nice to have
• dbt, Airflow, or similar transformation and orchestration tools
• Web frameworks for internal tools, such as FastAPI, Flask, or React
• Tableau Server administration
• Experience on a small team building products from scratch
