About The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Staff Software Engineer to join the FinHub - Transfers team within our Platform group. In this role, you will own the architectural direction of the critical systems powering crypto and fiat fund movements across Coinbase. The Transfers team is responsible for one of the industry's most scalable and reliable distributed financial platforms, supporting Retail, Prime, Exchange, International, and Payments products. You will be instrumental in making key technical decisions, enhancing platform reliability and scalability, and leading cross-functional initiatives that directly affect how millions of customers move money securely and efficiently on Coinbase.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems in production environments.

• Proven track record of owning architectural direction and making impactful technical decisions.

• Expertise in backend programming languages such as Go, Ruby, Python, or Java.

• Strong knowledge of cloud-native architecture and designing highly available, high-throughput systems.

• Experience delivering and scaling financial systems or fund movement platforms where transaction integrity, idempotency, and auditability are critical.

• Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional technical initiatives and mentoring engineers.

• Ability to translate complex distributed systems challenges into clear architectural strategies and actionable roadmaps.

• Responsible use of generative AI technologies, maintaining human oversight to enhance workflow efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and quality.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical architecture of the Transfers fund movement systems, driving design decisions related to distributed system structure, correctness guarantees, and scalability across crypto and fiat rails.

• Lead complex, cross-team engineering projects from inception to completion, collaborating with Payments, Trading, and product engineering teams to deliver new capabilities and platform enhancements.

• Drive the evolution of backend infrastructure using modern cloud-native patterns, proactively identifying and resolving scaling bottlenecks before they impact customers.

• Establish and maintain engineering standards, code review practices, and architectural patterns to improve quality and reduce operational risk in high-correctness financial systems.

• Mentor engineers at various levels on system design, distributed systems best practices, and building reliable production services where financial integrity is paramount.
