About The Role

As a Kernel Software Engineer, you will design, develop, debug, and maintain C and C++ software at the kernel and system levels. You will work with operating system internals, memory management, process management, file systems, network drivers, and hardware interactions. This role calls for strong programming fundamentals and the ability to reason carefully about performance, reliability, resource use, and interactions between software and hardware. You will collaborate with technical colleagues to understand requirements, evaluate design options, implement solutions, and investigate complex issues. The successful candidate will write clear, maintainable code and contribute to sound engineering practices across the development process.

Qualifications

• Professional experience developing software in C and C++, including experience with kernel-level or system-level programming.

• Strong understanding of operating system concepts, such as process management, memory management, file systems, and hardware interaction.

• Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming principles, and efficient resource management.

• Experience designing, implementing, or maintaining operating system components, such as memory allocation systems, file systems, network drivers, or process-management features.

• Understanding of software design principles, architectural practices, and design patterns used to build robust, scalable systems.

• Demonstrated ability to debug, troubleshoot, and resolve complex software issues using a structured, analytical approach.

• Ability to communicate technical findings clearly and work effectively with colleagues across engineering activities.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, test, and maintain C and C++ applications and system software, with a focus on kernel-level programming.

• Design and contribute to core operating system components, including memory allocation, file systems, network drivers, and process management.

• Apply sound data structures, algorithms, memory-management techniques, and object-oriented principles where appropriate to create efficient solutions.

• Analyze low-level system behavior, including operating system internals, hardware communication, and interactions among kernel components.

• Use software design principles, architectural best practices, and suitable design patterns to support reliable and scalable implementations.

• Investigate defects and performance concerns, identify root causes, and implement and verify appropriate fixes.

• Review code and technical designs, document implementation decisions, and support the ongoing quality and maintainability of system software.

• Collaborate with team members to clarify requirements, communicate progress and risks, and deliver engineering work aligned with project objectives.
