About the Opportunity:

The SENIOR SERVER ENGINEER role on the NBA 2K team is responsible for developing and maintaining backend services that power online gameplay features. This position impacts the quality and scalability of online experiences, supporting millions of concurrent players through efficient distributed systems and databases. The role ensures reliable, low-latency backend performance critical to the franchise's success.

Responsibilities:

• Develop backend architecture and services supporting NBA 2K's online features

• Design scalable, reliable, and fault-tolerant distributed systems

• Build and maintain large-scale computing solutions for high player concurrency

• Develop efficient database structures and queries for real-time transactions

• Deliver backend services focused on performance and stability

• Collaborate with engineering and design teams to enable seamless online gameplay

Requirements:

• 5+ years of professional backend and server-side software development

• Strong proficiency in C++ and object-oriented programming principles

• Experience with scripting languages, preferably Python and JavaScript

• Understanding of distributed and scalable systems

• Experience with multithreaded programming in real-time environments

• Ability to evaluate and integrate emerging technologies

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience

• Experience with secure transaction systems and virtual currency is a plus

• Skilled in database optimization and management

• Familiarity with online gaming architectures and live service design

• Knowledge of SQL databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL

• Video game console development experience beneficial

• Passion for video games

Pay Range and Compensation Package:

• California Remote: $130,700 to $174,300 per year

• New York Remote: $117,700 to $157,000 per year

• New Jersey Remote: $117,700 to $157,000 per year

• Maryland Remote: $117,700 to $157,000 per year

• Colorado Remote: $117,000 to $157,000 per year

• Washington Remote: $130,700 to $174,300 per year

• Compensation varies based on candidate experience and market location

• Total package may include bonus, equity awards, medical, financial, and other benefits
