Who we are
AtJgC is a forward-deployed growth studio. We’re changing how software gets built and delivered.
AI has made output cheap. Screens, code and first drafts are no longer scarce. What’s scarce is getting products to land: shipping fast, finding the growth signal, and building something people choose to use. Value is moving from making things to making things land.
We think design is the new code. The product teams that win from here will pair builders, who are entrepreneurial, technical and above all tasteful, with full-stack engineers who can turn a vision into production systems in weeks. We’ve worked this way for six years, before the model had a name, and we’re now taking it to early-stage portfolio companies that need to get to market fast.
This isn’t the forward deployed engineer you’ve seen.
Most forward deployed engineer roles put an engineer next to a customer to integrate a platform, wire up data and get a contract live. That made sense when the hard part was connecting systems.
Now the hard part is adoption. Products stall on the interface, the workflow, and the people who have to use them every day, not on the model or the backend. So our forward deployed role leads with design. One person shapes the product and ships it, close enough to the users to know what will land and skilled enough to build it that week.
You aren’t deploying someone else’s platform. You’re bringing new products to market.
The role
You’re the builder half of the partnership. You’ll embed with early-stage teams, find what matters, and turn it into live product: the flows, interfaces and systems that make users stay. You’ll pair with our full-stack engineers on the deep backend work, and you’ll own the experience from the first sketch to production code.
What you’ll do
• Embed with early-stage teams and take their products from idea to launch to traction
• Design and build together: prototype in code, test with real users, and ship to production
• Read the growth signals in usage, activation and retention, and change the product based on what you see
• Set the pace: make scope calls, cut what doesn’t matter, and ship weekly
• Turn what we learn into reusable systems, components and AI-native workflows that speed up every launch
• Shape our practice as we define the category, including the craft standards, the playbooks, and how we hire
What you bring
• 7+ years designing and shipping digital products, with a portfolio of live work that people use and that you built yourself
• Product design and UX at a senior level: interaction design, information architecture, visual systems, and the judgment to know what to leave out
• Production frontend in React/Next.js and TypeScript, with design systems, accessibility and performance you’d stand behind
• Enough full-stack skill to ship features end to end: APIs, data, auth and integrations, without waiting on anyone for the basics
• AI-native habits: you design and build with AI tools every day, and you’ve shipped LLM-powered experiences that people use
• Growth instincts: you’ve moved activation, conversion or retention numbers, and you can explain why they moved
• Comfort working with clients: you can run a room with founders, push back on scope, and earn trust fast
• An owner’s mindset: you think about the business, not only the brief
• Taste: you notice when something feels wrong even when it works, and you fix it
• US-based, with working hours that overlap US time zones
Bonus points
• You’ve founded a company or been an early designer or engineer (first 10) at a startup
• You’ve worked in a forward deployed, solutions or embedded role and seen where the model breaks
• You’ve built messaging automation, customer data pipelines or attribution systems
• You write or speak publicly about craft, product or how software is changing
Why AtJgC
• You’ll help define a new category, the forward deployed model for product
• You’ll ship more in a year than most designers or engineers ship in five
• You’ll work directly with founders, with no layers in between
• $100K–$150K base salary
• Apply: Send us something you designed and shipped, and tell us why it landed.
