About The Company
International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) brings people, technology, and ideas together to solve complex business challenges. Our engineering teams build and maintain software that supports customers, internal teams, and critical business operations. At IBM, we value thoughtful problem-solving, high-quality engineering, and respect for the craft and the people behind the work. We also recognize that sustainable performance depends on respecting life outside work.
This opportunity is based in Sioux City, Iowa, and offers the chance to contribute to a collaborative technology team working across software development, data integrity, cloud services, and engineering practices. The team is growing to meet increased demand and is looking for an engineer who takes ownership, communicates clearly, and is comfortable turning evolving requirements into dependable software.
About The Role
IBM is hiring a mid-level PHP Developer with hands-on Selenium experience to help build, test, and improve technology products and services. This is a full-time position for an engineer who enjoys delivering practical solutions and can work across a varied technical environment. While PHP and Selenium are central to the role, the work also involves JavaScript dashboards, data-focused services, AWS-based architecture, and gRPC systems. Candidates should be prepared to discuss their specific experience with the technologies relevant to their background.
You will receive meaningful responsibility early, with opportunities to shape implementation decisions and contribute to engineering standards. The role calls for sound judgment: you should be comfortable taking initiative while recognizing when a problem requires collaboration, clarification, or escalation. Compensation is $57,000 to $87,000 annually, with the level determined by relevant experience and qualifications.
Qualifications
We are seeking candidates with approximately four years of relevant software development experience, or an equivalent combination of professional experience and demonstrated skills. You should have practical experience developing with PHP and creating or maintaining automated tests using Selenium. Familiarity with JavaScript and building data-oriented dashboards is valuable. Experience with AWS services, gRPC, CI workflows, distributed systems, or service-oriented architecture is also beneficial.
Strong candidates bring meticulous attention to detail and can explain the reasoning behind their technical decisions. You should be comfortable investigating data discrepancies, reviewing code, and improving software without losing sight of reliability and maintainability. The ability to navigate ambiguity, ask useful questions, and work independently while remaining a collaborative teammate is essential. We value clear communication, a learning mindset, and a thoughtful approach to prioritizing work.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will develop, test, and maintain software using PHP, Selenium, and other technologies appropriate to the work. You will build JavaScript dashboards that help IBM technology teams access useful information and make informed decisions. You will help protect the accuracy and consistency of data across Goal Setting services and stores, investigate issues, and implement durable improvements.
You will contribute to the evolution of a remote-native technology platform by identifying opportunities to separate services and support independent deployment on AWS. You will help maintain gRPC continuous integration workflows, with a focus on keeping feedback cycles efficient and helping engineers stay productive. You will also contribute to gRPC coding standards and encourage consistent, maintainable practices across engineering teams.
Additional responsibilities include improving the reliability and performance of Goal Setting services during periods of increased demand, including seasonal traffic surges, and collaborating on features that strengthen the product experience and support customer retention. You will communicate progress, document important decisions, and work with teammates to deliver solutions that meet quality expectations.
Benefits
IBM offers an annual salary range of $57,000 to $87,000, real mentorship, a benefits package, and a flexible full-time working rhythm. The company aims to support professional development while making room for employees’ lives outside work. Specific benefits and program eligibility are subject to applicable IBM policies and the terms of the position.
Equal Opportunity
