Role Description
As a Content Strategist at 8KS6, reporting to the Assoc. Director of Content Strategy, you’ll actively support shaping the strategy on luxury hospitality website projects and platforms. You’ll define what content is needed, why, and how it should be structured to inform design. Our implementation and content production teams carry that strategy into the CMS, so your focus stays on the thinking that shapes the experience.
You’ll lead client conversations, make recommendations with confidence, and move strategy forward while requirements are still evolving. You’ll work closely with UX Designers, Business Analysts, project managers, and implementation leads to translate business goals and user needs into a content strategy the whole team can build from.
This role requires analytical rigor, strong judgment, and tenacity. You’ll thrive here if you run toward ambiguity, enjoy turning it into structure, and can explain the why behind a strategic decision to a client, a designer, and a developer in the same afternoon.
Key Role Responsibilities:
• Discovery and requirements gathering: Plan and lead content discovery sessions with client stakeholders. Come prepared, ask the questions that surface real business goals and user needs, and synthesize findings into clear strategic direction.
• Content audits and gap analysis: Audit existing content and competitive or comparable sites. Identify what to keep, revise, consolidate, or create, and turn findings into recommendations clients can act on.
• Information architecture: Define sitemaps, navigation, and page hierarchies that support user journeys and business goals, in partnership with the design team.
• Content modeling: Partner with Business Analysts, development and design to define content types, fields, taxonomies, and relationships that make the strategy scalable in the CMS.
• Strategy artifacts: Produce page-level content outlines, wireframes, and component-level content requirements that achieve alignment with the client and inform design.
• Handoff to implementation: Package strategy so implementation and content production teams can execute it: clear page requirements, content guidance, and answers to open questions. Stay available to resolve strategic questions as content is produced.
• Client partnership: Present and defend strategic recommendations to clients, guide stakeholders through tradeoffs, and build trust as a strategic advisor.
How the role grows
• Partner and execute (first 3 months): Shadow discovery and client sessions, learn 8KS6 methods and client context, and deliver strategy work such as audits, sitemaps, and page strategies under the Assoc. Director's direction.
• Lead workstreams (3 to 6 months): Own defined strategy workstreams end to end, run client sessions with the Assoc. Director as backup, and make day-to-day strategic calls.
• Own accounts (6 months and beyond): Serve as strategy lead on assigned accounts, with the Assoc. Director providing oversight on high-stakes decisions.
What Success Looks Like in This Role
• The Director can hand you a strategy workstream and trust it will come back sound, on time, and well reasoned.
• Clients see you as a strategic advisor. You bring a point of view and can say "here's what I recommend" with the reasoning to back it.
• Designers, BAs, and implementation leads build from your work without needing to re-ask the strategic questions.
• You move strategy forward without waiting for a perfect brief. When something is blocked, you propose a path or escalate early.
• You manage strategy work across multiple projects without things slipping, and you know when to pull in senior support.
Essential Leadership Qualities:
• Tenacity: You don't give up when things get messy or unclear. You push through ambiguity, follow up relentlessly, and find a way to make progress.
• Initiative: You ask for alignment rather than wait for direction. You'd rather propose a solution that gets refined than sit idle waiting for a perfect brief.
• Ownership & Accountability: taking responsibility of a process or initiative knowing the “buck stops” with this person, even though multiple teams are involved in its execution
• Tech-Savvy: Understands and thrives in digital environments, embraces new technical concepts quickly and can effectively work with technical team members.
• Self-Organized: Impeccable organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
• Communication: Excellent communication skills to convey key messages with context, conciseness, and a spirit of white-glove service
• Curiosity: Resourceful and tech-savvy, with the ability to seek out and learn new technical, UI/UX, analytics, and digital marketing & platform concepts and innovations quickly
• Team Player: exhibits a positive, optimistic, “roll-up-your-sleeves” attitude, with the ability to not only jump in and assist wherever needed
• Agility: thrives in a fast-paced environment, with multiple moving pieces, and can identify and lead tactics to make progress through ambiguity
• Exceptional service-minded relationship-building skills to foster strong client partnerships.
• Strong problem-solving skills to address complex marketing challenges and adapt to changing circumstances.
Essential Experience:
• 4 or more years in content strategy, UX strategy, or information architecture, with at least 2 years leading strategy work directly with clients.
• Demonstrated experience planning and facilitating discovery workshops and aligning client stakeholders.
• A portfolio or work samples showing content strategy, sitemaps, content models, page strategies, or wireframes you owned.
• Agency experience preferred, including managing multiple projects concurrently.
• Working knowledge of UX design and development workflows, and comfort collaborating across disciplines.
• Experience defining content types, taxonomies, and structures for CMS-driven sites (CMS-agnostic; WordPress, AEM, or similar).
• Experience conducting content audits and turning findings into strategic recommendations.
• Experience handing off strategy to design, development, or content production teams.
• Hospitality, travel, or luxury brand experience is a plus.
• Experience or interest in using AI tools to support research, audits, synthesis, and strategy deliverables.
