Role Description The Patent Illustrator is a full-time, on-site role located in Falls Church, VA. In this position, the individual will create detailed patent drawings and illustrations that accurately represent inventions and comply with USPTO and international patent office requirements. Day-to-day tasks include interpreting invention disclosures and specifications, collaborating with patent attorneys and drafters to clarify design details, and producing clear, consistent drawings using both digital tools and traditional techniques. The role also involves revising illustrations based on stakeholder feedback, maintaining file organization and version control, and ensuring all work meets internal quality standards and client deadlines. The Patent Illustrator will contribute to continuous improvement of illustration processes and support the adoption of new tools and best practices.

Qualifications

• Ability to create precise visual representations using Digital Illustration and Graphic Design tools.

• Strong Drawing and Graphics skills for translating technical concepts into clear patent figures.

• Foundational artistic abilities in Painting and related visual arts that support overall composition and style.

• Proficiency with industry-standard illustration software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, CAD or similar tools).

• Attention to detail and accuracy in line work, labeling, and layout, with a focus on regulatory compliance.

• Experience reading and interpreting technical descriptions, engineering drawings, or patent specifications.

• Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with attorneys, agents, and technical staff.

• Organizational skills to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain consistent documentation.

• Prior experience with patent illustration or technical drawing is preferred but not required.

• Relevant education or training in graphic design, industrial design, technical illustration, or a related field is beneficial.
