About Ringo Studio
Ringo Studio is a New York-based design practice building immersive environments at the intersection of wellness, retail, and culture. Known for sculptural and expressive interiors defined by bold colors, layered materiality, and spirited playfulness, the studio partners with visionary brands and founders to bring ambitious concepts to life with feel-good originality. With expertise in wellness-informed design and a strategic approach to the customer journey, Ringo Studio creates environments that evoke emotion, elevate ritual, and foster community, bringing the extraordinary into everyday spaces. Our work has been featured in numerous publications, and the studio has been named to AN Interior’s Top 50 Architects and Designers list for the past 4 consecutive years.
The Role
We’re looking for an architectural designer with 3 to 5 years of experience and the ambition to create bold, sculptural, and unforgettable spaces. Since our projects are often intimate in scale, the right person pairs an architectural foundation with a true feel for interiors, from material and texture to the tactile details people experience up close. Working directly with our founder and Creative Director, Madelynn Ringo, and alongside senior and junior staff, this designer leads projects across our wellness, retail, and hospitality work, translating each brand’s identity into environments people can feel. The role calls for strong technical skills and a deep understanding of construction, from comprehensive drawing sets and custom millwork to consultant coordination, along with the project management to plan ahead, flag hurdles early, and keep decisions moving. Clear, confident communication builds lasting relationships with clients, vendors, and consultants, while independence and agility keep multiple fast moving projects on track. This designer is fluent in contemporary tools, including AI, and mentors junior designers to raise the level of work across the studio. This is a role with real ownership from day 1 and room to grow into leading larger projects.
Responsibilities
• Lead design on your projects by developing engaging spatial concepts, bold material palettes, and unique details that bring each brand’s identity to life.
• Understand each client’s operational needs, from merchandising and staff flow to front and back of house, POS, and technology, and design spaces that work within those requirements.
• Use Rhino, Enscape, and AI tools to test innovative ideas visually, then build engaging client presentations that combine renderings, research, precedents, and annotations to tell the design story clearly.
• Keep projects organized across tools such as Google Drive, , Procore, and Slack.
• Produce comprehensive drawing sets, including plans, elevations, sections, RCPs, and details, along with coordinated FF&E schedules and specifications.
• Detail custom millwork and partner with fabricators on cost effective strategies that maintain design integrity
• Coordinate with external consultants by providing clear and organized design direction, and effectively managing their deliverables and deadlines .
• On select projects, manage project schedules, deliverables, and decisions, flagging risks early and partnering with our Director of Construction as designs move to production and build.
• Lead site visits and fabrication reviews, support punch lists, document field conditions, and drive open items to resolution through installation.
• Mentor junior designers by reviewing their work and giving clear direction
• Take initiative beyond your own projects, taking on tasks big or small, supporting colleagues when deadlines demand it, and investing in the studio’s collective growth and success.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in architecture required; Master’s preferred.
• 3 to 5 years of professional experience in architecture and interiors, with a focus on retail, wellness, or hospitality.
• Examples of built projects you helped take from concept through construction, shown in your portfolio that demonstrates your design thinking and technical skills.
• Proficiency in Rhino and Enscape; experience with AI and other contemporary technologies preferred.
• Strong command of construction documents, detailing, and materials, with a working knowledge of codes and building systems.
• Experience detailing custom millwork, furniture, and fabricated elements.
• Experience coordinating project schedules, consultant teams, and competing deadlines across multiple projects.
• Polished visual, verbal, and written communication, with the confidence to present to clients and direct consultants and fabricators.
• Organized, detail oriented, and self directed, with a high standard for accuracy.
Benefits
• Medical coverage with Ringo Studio contributing towards premiums
• 401(k) retirement plan
• 15 days of paid time off per year, plus 10 paid company holidays
• Hybrid schedule: 4 days in studio, 1 day remote
This role is based at our Brooklyn studio on a hybrid schedule. Candidates must be authorized to work in the US and currently based in the US, with a preference for the New York City area.
Ringo Studio is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applicants of all backgrounds.
